In a speech on Monday, Joe Biden stressed the need for "modernizing" US defense capabilities in the face of threats from China and Russia. Biden also addressed the recently discovered hack of the software company SolarWinds that affected several government agencies.
Biden said he spoke with a member of his transition team about the "different strategic challenges we’re gonna face from both Russia and China and the reforms we must make to put ourselves in the strongest possible position to meet those challenges." He said those reforms include "modernizing our defense priorities to better deter aggression in the future."

After the Berlin Wall fell in November 1989 and the death of the Soviet Union was confirmed two years later when Boris Yeltsin courageously stood down the Red Army tanks in front of Moscow’s White House, a dark era in human history came to an end.
The world had descended into a 77-Year War, incepting with the mobilization of the armies of old Europe in August 1914. If you want to count bodies, 150 million were killed by all the depredations that germinated in the Great War, its foolish aftermath at Versailles, and the march of history into World War II and the Cold War that followed inexorably thereupon.

At least 150 House Democrats signed onto a letter supporting Joe Biden’s plan to work with Iran to return to the 2015 nuclear deal, The Hill reported on Thursday.
The letter reads: "We are united in our support for swiftly taking the necessary diplomatic steps to restore constraints on Iran’s nuclear program and return both Iran and the United States to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a starting point for further negotiations."

The American invasion of Iraq began almost 18 years ago in mid-March 2003. By early April, that country’s capital, Baghdad, had fallen and before the month ended the war was considered over and won. On May 1st, President George W. Bush, in the co-pilot’s seat of a Navy fighter jet, landed on the aircraft carrier the USS Abraham Lincoln and gave his "mission accomplished" speech.
By then, of course, he had already "won" the war he and his top officials had launched with their post-9/11 invasion of Afghanistan.

In a speech on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that military action against Iran was on the table for Israel.
"We will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons," Netanyahu said at a graduation ceremony for Israeli Air Force pilots. "We do not take lightly the threats made against us, nor do we shy away from them. Our policy is clear and consistent: whoever tries to harm us will suffer a crushing blow."
Netanyahu’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the region, and after Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed in an apparent Israeli plot. Since Fakhrizadeh’s death, Israel has been hyping the threat of Iranian attacks, despite Iran’s clear desire to avoid a military confrontation before President Trump leaves office.
